2 Healthcare Items

With many thanks to our friends at the Comptroller's Office, we have some corrections/clarifications to the Health Plan changes.  In an effort to keep healthcare costs down, there are two added components to the State Employee Healthcare Plan: SmartShopper and Site Of Service.  Here is an update for both:

Vitals SmartShopper is a program where members can earn cash rewards for certain medical procedures by “shopping” and utilizing the most quality and cost effective facilities.  The Office of the State Comptroller will be sending out a communication regarding this program in the next few weeks.

Site of Service
For outpatient lab work, diagnostic x-rays and/or high-cost imaging services, such as MRI’s, CT and PET scans, employees will have no cost share as long as their tests are performed at preferred in-network labs or imaging centers.  Members will pay 20% coinsurance for tests that are performed at non-preferred in-network labs or imaging centers.   Members with out-of-network coverage (POS plans only) will pay 40% coinsurance for tests performed at out-of-network lab or imaging centers.

Site of Service is expected to be in effect as of March 1, 2018.

To find a Preferred Lab or Imaging facility, visit:

For Anthem Members:

Choose the Find a Doctor link and follow the prompts. Providers listed under Lab/Pathology/Radiology programs will have an “SOS” indicator beneath their names if they are in the Site of Service program.

For United Healthcare/Oxford Members:

Under the “Benefits” drop-down menu at the top of the page, click on “Find a Doctor or Facility.” Scroll down to the section for “Site of Service Lab and Radiology in Connecticut” where you can choose from “CT Preferred Radiology Centers” or “CT Preferred Laboratories.” Each link will produce a list of all Preferred SOS providers for radiology or laboratories.
