How the "Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) Trust Fund" Works

$87 million is in this trust fund, $24.5 million from the State, $62.5 million from employees.

State begins matching employee contributions in 2017.

Fund to help pay for health benefits for state employees retiring on or after 7/22/11.

Health benefits for state employees who retired before 7/22/11 will be paid from general fund revenues.

No money has been withdrawn from this fund.

Fund expected to grow to $2 billion in ten years assuming no assets are withdrawn.

According to FTR Bulletin 13-02 announced in the Federal Register dated December 28, 2012, the General Services Administration (GSA) of the Federal Government is increasing the reimbursement rate from 55.5 cents to 56.5 cents per mile for use of privately owned automobiles when authorized as advantageous to the Government.
